(27 abr. 1904, Ballintubbert, County Leix, Irlanda–22 may. 1972, Hadley Wood, Hertfordshire, Inglaterra).

Poeta británico nacido en Irlanda. Day-Lewis, hijo de un clérigo, estudió en la Universidad de Oxford y en la década de 1930 formó parte de un círculo de poetas de izquierda encabezado por W.H. Auden, aunque luego se volcó hacia un lirismo individualista expresado en formas tradicionales. Entre sus obras figuran las traducciones de las Geórgicas (1940), La Eneida (1952) y las Églogas (1963) de Virgilio, y los volúmenes de poesía The Room [La habitación] (1965) y The Whispering Roots [Las raíces susurrantes] (1970). También publicó una autobiografía, The Buried Day [El día sepultado] (1960), y varias novelas policiales bajo el seudónimo de Nicholas Blake. Fue nombrado poeta laureado de Inglaterra en 1968. Fue el padre del actor Daniel Day-Lewis.
